Looks Worse Before Its Better

So we have these grand plans for the backyard. My goal is to make it feel a bit more "foresty" mixed with old English garden.

Well, here's what it looks like today.
They say it always looks worse before it gets better so let's cross our fingers and hope that is true.

I'm laying cardboard down to hopefully kill off some of the grass.
We need to have almost a third of a yard without grass and we would prefer not to do that by hand if we can help it. We should've laid this before the snow fell but that came a bit early this year, with the seven feet in a matter of a day back in November.

We're not ready to plant but the onion sets have to go in so we're just digging up (what looks like) random holes in the lawn.

The tiles are marking the spots where the walking paths will be.

Everything looks just so... messy!

But I have onion in the ground and that makes me happy today!

I’m Stephanie, the mind and Momma behind The Heirloom Family. I created this blog as a way to capture the magic of our family and the beauty of every day slow and simple living. I also hope it serves as an inspiration to you as well.

Nestled in our little corner of the Earth in Western New York, I am lucky enough to share my home with my husband and our daughter, along with 4 cheerful cats.

We strive for a wholesome life, one that is slow and steady. I want to breathe it in, this time we have, and I might just be lucky enough to see the magic in it all.

There are so many things in life that I love – nature. crochet. photography. gardening. cooking. faith. honey. reading. sunsets and sunrises. flowers. ballet. enchantment.
