Buds and Birds

It was such a joy to be in the yard today...


The elderberry is beginning to bud. I couldn't believe these immature bushes that we just put in last spring made it through the harsh winter we had.


The Red-Winged Blackbirds returned in full force.


Happy nests are everywhere to be seen.


And the birds were singing.


I'm a bit worried, though, about our butterfly bushes.
We put these in only last spring, just like the elderberry bushes but I haven't seen a single bud on any of them.
They bloomed so beautifully last year, I'd be heartbroken if they didn't survive.
