Valentine Hearts

I am excited to celebrate Valentine's Day this year, I think Tessa will enjoy it!
So in order to decorate the house some, I decided we'd use this wool roving and wet-felt a few hearts.

My method is pretty simple. I use cookie cutters to shape whatever we plan on making.

Then just slowly pull off small tufts of the roving and place it in the cookie cutter. You'll have to stack the fibers higher than the cutter since it shrinks down quite a bit.

Then just add some warm water with a few drops of dish soap and slowly start poking the fibers down. Keep poking for a good, long while to really felt them. You can flip it over and do the same to the other side.

To rinse, I take it over to the sink and run some warm water over the fibers which are still being held in place by the cutter. Then I switch to cold and do the same thing. Back and forth between the temperatures a few times and it's done.

Wring it out and then lay flat to dry. Easy peasy and you'll get sweet little hearts like these.

Once they were dry we decided to thread them with some hemp cord and string them on our driftwood in the living room.

I would have liked to do a few more but three was enough of a project for our little lady.

I’m Stephanie, the mind and Momma behind The Heirloom Family. I created this blog as a way to capture the magic of our family and the beauty of every day slow and simple living. I also hope it serves as an inspiration to you as well.

Nestled in our little corner of the Earth in Western New York, I am lucky enough to share my home with my husband and our daughter, along with 4 cheerful cats.

We strive for a wholesome life, one that is slow and steady. I want to breathe it in, this time we have, and I might just be lucky enough to see the magic in it all.
