We made a quick decision to snag some time in the woods before Scott had to head off to work in the afternoon. The wind was still blustery but once we got into the protection of the treed trails of the hike it turned out to be lovely.
It was such a reassuring sight to see moving water (read: not frozen).
And then came the chickadees.
I simply adore chickadees.
I love when they visit the feeders at home.
I extra, extra love to see Tessa experience them this closely.
They are one of the tiniest birds, yet they exert such bravery to visit with us huge humans.
Then we saw this guy.
Poor dude was having a bad hair day.
This picture does no justice but the red on this woodpecker was so vibrant!
Even sweet nuthatches came to the party.
Before we left, Tessa found a peaceful place to lay down in the snow and watch the sky.
She laid there, in her own serene world, for quite some time. Scott and I walked along a bit further, just far enough to give her the space she deserves but close enough to have her in our sights.
Every person, no matter adult or child, should be able to sit in nature with their own thoughts uninterrupted.
We had an inspiring time together, even if it was a short while.
