Book Review: long night moon

I have a new favorite children's book. long night moon, by Cynthia Rylant and illustrated by Mark Siegel

Tessa and I just love the moon. We watch it in awe most nights before bed while singing our moon song. We talk about the different moon phases and even have a moon on our wall that lights up in the different phases.

After spotting this book at the library, we added it to our borrow list. When we got home and opened it up to discover that it goes through each month of the year (extra points for the rhythm) and poetically describes the Native American names for each full moon, I was in love.

We have a few other moon books but long night moon gives the it such an enchanting twist that we had to purchase this book for ourselves.

My other favorite part is the mother and child illustrations. It really drives home that special connection that Tess and I have, especially together with the moon.

The book eloquently includes wildlife and how the night and moon work in their favor.

And how the seasons change.

This is an excellent book to add to your family collection!

I’m Stephanie, the mind and Momma behind The Heirloom Family. I created this blog as a way to capture the magic of our family and the beauty of every day slow and simple living. I also hope it serves as an inspiration to you as well.

Nestled in our little corner of the Earth in Western New York, I am lucky enough to share my home with my husband and our daughter, along with 4 cheerful cats.

We strive for a wholesome life, one that is slow and steady. I want to breathe it in, this time we have, and I might just be lucky enough to see the magic in it all.
