Jumping Logs

My Daddy lost a large tree on his property during the winter. This beloved tree used to hold this old family swing that he rigged up from a tire hub cap that all of us kids swung on for years, just until last fall.

When Spring finally arrived he was able to get to break down the tree for firewood but it wasn't until a few weeks later the idea popped in my head: we needed jumping logs!

It's been our mission to create a more inviting space for our family that encourage free play in the backyard. I asked him if he could grab some logs for us, trying my best to describe our plan for them. Lo and behold, a few days later her shows up with his horse trailer full of logs for jumping and rocks for stacking.

They were barely on the ground before Tessa was climbing. That's a great sign for me!

It fun to stretch your legs across each one, hoping to make it all the way.

To crawl from one to another takes careful considerations.

Proud. Achieving your goal can be so sweet.

These logs are the perfect example of the Waldorf inspiration that is taking hold in our home.
Use what you have. Create what you need. Keep the play free.

Meet The Author

I’m Stephanie, the mind and Momma behind The Heirloom Family. I created this blog as a way to capture the magic of our family and the beauty of every day slow and simple living. I also hope it serves as an inspiration to you as well.

Nestled in our little corner of the Earth in Western New York, I am lucky enough to share my home with my husband and our daughter, along with 4 cheerful cats.

We strive for a wholesome life, one that is slow and steady. I want to breathe it in, this time we have, and I might just be lucky enough to see the magic in it all.

There are so many things in life that I love – nature. crochet. photography. gardening. cooking. faith. honey. reading. sunsets and sunrises. flowers. ballet. enchantment. Dave Matthews Band. the moon. rainbows. babywearing. lavender and sandalwood. celebrations. music. hippie. poetry. love. the forest. romantic history. cats. dreamcatchers. wool. heritage. family. lilac. red wine. memories.
