Mat Meditation

Our family, as a whole, has unexpectedly turned into a bunch of yoga lovers. I have been interested in yoga ever since I realized my almost 30-year old body doesn't appreciate pointe like it used to but I wasn't sure what yoga had to offer. I took my first class a few months ago and I was hooked from the get-go. It's meditative and I feel good when I get to stretch.

Scott took his first class last week when he agreed to go with me because I just wanted him to experience it. Our studio is in a ravine on 10 acres of gorgeous land with a creek running though it. How could he not enjoy something like that? And it really is quite the workout.

And lo and behold, our little lady has loved yoga since we first brought out a mat at home. She especially enjoys doing headstands with Daddy.

She got her first real yoga mat as a birthday gift a few days ago and it's been unrolled ever since. This morning, I was finishing up some chores and told her to go ahead and get her mat ready. I walked into the living room and this is what I found.

My sweet girl created her own meditation altar. I've never done something like that with our mats so it was so neat to see her do that on her own.

And look what she chose. A book, a stone, a pine cone, her family photo and a king.

As I stood in awe, she just carried on with her poses. I asked her what made her want to put those items on there and her response was "I wanted to decorate my yoga mat."

I’m Stephanie, the mind and Momma behind The Heirloom Family. I created this blog as a way to capture the magic of our family and the beauty of every day slow and simple living. I also hope it serves as an inspiration to you as well.

Nestled in our little corner of the Earth in Western New York, I am lucky enough to share my home with my husband and our daughter, along with 4 cheerful cats.

We strive for a wholesome life, one that is slow and steady. I want to breathe it in, this time we have, and I might just be lucky enough to see the magic in it all.

There are so many things in life that I love – nature. crochet. photography. gardening. cooking. faith. honey. reading. sunsets and sunrises. flowers. ballet. enchantment.
