This year I focused on using natural items for our holiday decorations. Both because I think they are beautiful and because I wanted to return them to nature when we were finished.
The dried orange garlands were devoured by our squirrels.
We've used this garland from autumn time, then to decorate the tree and now the squirrels have a meal. Then the cotton string will be put in our suet holder that is holding nesting material for the birds.
And our Christmas tree is providing great shelter for birds, especially the ones visiting our feeders.
Come Spring, we will strip the needles and use it to fertilize our acid-loving blueberries.
And the trunk and branches will be crafted into a hand carved creation by Scott.
Anything too small to use will go in the compost.
