Part of our homesteading venture is that we make do with what we have.
Rather than trying to buy this and that, we try to follow the motto "If you can't make it or barter for it, you don't need it."
I was very bummed when we went to move a huge palm we have in the house, that our beautiful blue pot cracked. When we first got the planter, I found a huge bamboo plate to go underneath to catch the dirt and water.
These things we're ready to go to the trash until it dawned on me that I could use it reversed as a bird bath that I've been wanting. Each morning during these cold days, I go out and they get fresh water which is hard to come by when everything is frozen.
We also have nesting material ready in the suet case for springtime.
The squirrels have been smart enough on how to get into this "squirrel-proof" feeder. They keep all their weight hanging upside down on the house and only use their front paws to softly bring the feeder over. Sigh.
Can you see the tracks in the snow?
Under the mask of cold and wind, we still have so much of Mother Nature's activity going on.
